We didn't catch any more cats overnight. Wish they'd do me and the boy cats in the cage a favor and just go in the trap and get it over with, so we can get the others out of their cage. They are pitiful in there.

There are some clouds, but still is a pretty nice day out. I heard on the radio we're supposed to get some showers and cooler weather for a few days. Have done some filing and need to clear off my desk for sure - The top is buried. I called the furniture store and ordered a double bed matress set and frame for another one of the bedrooms , and it can be delivered with the rest of the furniture on the 7th. Then Home Depot called and said they would also deliver the appliances on the 7th so that turned out perfect. Sandy at the phone company called and we tried to get Dish TV network set up, but the computers weren't cooperating so we'll try again next week. She is doing to a Dish computer tutorial and will know more after that. That was about an hour for nothing accomplished. We already got a natural gas bill for the house, so we know they are efficient.

Debbie mopped the floors and I did other housework and laundry. Debbie took a house key into James, and a lady he knows is going to clean the house top to bottom from construction dust etc. So it will be spic and span to move into. She will have it done by Tuesday. While she was out Debbie got some lunch and took a sightseeing drive up to Boulder Lake. Sheral called and we had a nice visit this afternoon. Judi said how good her wild rice was, so I got what I had out to fix some. Am having some salmon with it for dinner.

I'm writing in periwinkle because "it" doesn't want to do it in the default color today. Last night we caught the yellow striped male cat, Rusty, and this morning put him in the big cage with Traveler. They are behaving well in the cage and don't try to come out. I bet they learned something about rushing out the door at the vets that they are remembering. Can't tell you how bad I feel for the little kitties.

Back to town early to sign the paperwork at the title company. James met us there at 10 a.m. We all were a little early. It went pretty quickly. Debbie and I both drove our cars full of things to take to the house, and went up there and unloaded. James came too and we looked at things through the house again, kind of another inspection. One of the light fixtures doesn't work. There are very large patched or retouched places on the living room and dining room walls, as if they took a paint roller over spots and it doesn't quite match. Sorry that I didn't see that before. Maybe it will go away when we wipe the walls down. James is looking into getting a cleaning lady he knows to come and do a cleaning of the whole house before we begin to move in. That would be nice.

When we emptied our SUV Joe drove himself home. Debbie and I organized the paintings I'll take to the Mixed Media Show, made my price list and later we took them over to the library to store them in a closet there until they hang the show on Saturday morning. We had lunch at the Chinese restaurant and afterwards had some extra keys made. Took going to two hardware stores to get that done - Although I bet they had 300 blanks to choose from, none fit - what a waste of time on the first one (Ridley's) (the AtoZ did them in nothing flat and no long discussion about it).

When we go back to Rock Springs, we're going to take a few things I bought back. And change the color of the set of cookware I got. Thought we were getting black, Debbie thought I said stainless steele and stuck that on the cart and anyway I think I want to stick with the black cookware because everything else is mainly black.

We window shopped at the Barn Door. Things in there are kind of expensive, but nice and more western or "lodge" themed than our house seems to be heading. They had a nice set of antique twin headboards I might think about going back for. I bought two plate stands for some things I have that would need those. Before we started home we got some ice cream and it was pretty tasty. Home before 4 p.m. Made a pork chop casserole for dinner, stuck it in the oven and relaxed - thus letting the rice get overcooked and too dry. But it was o.k. The dogs liked it

First thing called the power company and got the power switched to our name - that was an easy one. Left home about 9:15. It was very nice at home again with the sun shining but as we got closer toward town the black wall of clouds got more stormy looking. In the course of the day it got pretty raw and windy for a while and then later in the afternoon cleared off again.

We had a pretty long day in Pinedale, went to the bank and got the cashiers check for the house. I can tell you I have never done anything like this in my life before - a first at nearly 70. And surely most people don't ever write a check like that in their lives. So it was kind of fun to do that. I'm sure I never will again. Also got the new account set up for online banking and bill pay which took a little while but now that should be fine. Next up to the new house to meet James and really looked at everything in the house again with an eye to where things will go, size of the shelves and how the furniture might fit in the living room, making sure we know whether we need to buy anything else - a couple of shower rods, found dryer vents in the garage so don't have to buy those, maybe get a fake owl for the roof to keep the pigeons from roosting there and making such a mess - opened and closed the garage doors - this is the first time I've every had a garage door opener of my own - Well, I didn't take notice before of what a low end stove it has. All black and shiny and new looking, but no self cleaning oven. So I'm glad we got the freezer/fridge and washer and dryer I wanted. Maybe after a while we can upgrade the stove. Tried all the light switches - one light in the living room doesn't come on. James walked around the perimeter of the property and made sure there were survey stakes - yes. He got me a few names to call about getting a fence built.

After we were done there we drove around the neighborhood a little and I showed Debbie the Orcutt Drive house we had looked at. Then a few of the other favorites and not favorites around town. I asked if she could see why we chose the top two and she said yes she could and agreed they were the best.

We had some lunch at the Wrangler and saw Gina there with Michael and Palmer. There were riding moving pasture for some of the cattle. They had some thunder and lightning and a few flakes of snow while they were riding. We got to have a pretty good visit. I made a stupid decision to buy and bring home one of their coconut cream pies for $20, and when we had some tonight it is one of the worst things I've ever eaten. I threw mine in the garbage and won't ever do that again. When she told me the price, I said how much is pie by the slice and she said about $2 - and I said maybe I should take six slices instead. It was awful anyway.

First up to the clinic to get my protime test. Saw Carmine there. Then to the phone company where Sandy helped me and we got the TV, phone and internet set up. Vance came in and said Hi to him too. To the library to see where I could leave my paintings for the art show tomorrow - the hanging committee gals will hang them on Saturday, but we won't have to come in on that day thank goodness. I also went first to Rio Verde and then to the court house planning and zoning to get a plat map? of our lot which has all the survey numbers and envelope showing where the fence can go. Then groceries. We saw a lot of people we knew in the store this time, and that was nice. I got everything on the checkout table and she got started checking me out, and found out the scale to weigh vegetables wasn't working, so couldn't take my produce. But a nice employee said she would be able to run the produce through on the self checkout. So I had a lesson for that and maybe could use that by myself now. And I was able just to pay for them with my card on the first aisle. I'm sure we did several other things too, but after shopping we headed home.

There was the huge cloud hanging over the mountains and I got a few pictures of that. It was straight east of Pinedale and still straight east of us when we got home. I calculate it was AT LEAST 20 miles wide. It doesn't look that big in the photo but was huge.

Put groceries away and had leftover meatloaf for dinner. Debbie and I watched "Prelude to a Kiss", one of my "new" movies. Now about bedtime. We have to get up early again and go with James to the Title Company at 10 a.m. for the house closing. We're also taking both cars full of things - remember all our shopping items are still in my SUV - Debbie will take another load too. We'll go unload it at the house after we get the keys. Friday, Saturday and Sunday we can stay home.

We're off on another day to town. Going to bank, get protime at the clinic and a list of other things. And back again tomorrow too - when hopefully the house should be ours. I got the power for the new house switched over to our name. Everything on the long list of things to do ihas been accomplished, except to go back to the phone company today and choose the options we want for the phone etc. That will be a bundle that includes phone, internet and TV. I will have to also call Dish TV when I know the details of the phone bundle. We're getting close!

Last night I ordered some more bedding from Penney's on line. Had to go there to get extra long twin bedding. I got two extra long twin beds and the sheets will be harder to find. I also shopped at Macy's for some of the kitchen bowls and utensils we hadn't gotten yet. That should all be about done now too. I think we have everything we need except cleaning supplies and food. There will be a few additional things in the way of furniture, but they aren't necessary to begin with. As time goes by I'll decide on those.

Last night we caught the first cat, Traveller, the black father cat. He is miserable in his big kennel. I thought we'd get another one or two in the night, but the trap is still empty this morning. They are getting too smart for that I guess. Now it occurs to me - what if they won't go in the trap??

The Road Home

Another really beautiful day. It got to about 60 yesterday. I hope it continues until Beverly and Curtis get here. It would be nice if we had good weather for working on the move. Still a struggle with the brokerage about the money, but it's supposed to be there in the bank tomorrow. We have to go in town tomorrow for my protime test at the clinic and then deliver the check - it goes to the title company. And we are scheduled to take possession of the house on Thursday. We will also go in to Pinedale that day and maybe be able to take the load that's in the vehicle to the new house.

Just wanted to tell you I will keep blogging, but won't email for a while. Although I really enjoy hearing from you so keep writing. On or before November 1 I must take some paintings in to the library for our Mixed Media Holiday art show. I've procrastinated on a job Jo gave me of calling some of our neighbors to see how they are feeling about the tax issue that is going on the ballot for the new Community Center. So I better do some of that today since I said I would.

The price of gas was sure down. We paid $2.93 and then saw another station where the price was $2.86. That's good for the cost of making the long drives.

In a story that was in last week's paper - A local author went to Mongolia or somewhere and went to a eagle hunter's gathering there. The pictures were great - she's a very good photographer. Yesterday was another long one. It was good weatherwise. We left about 8:30, drove down the dirt road to Farson again just because it is more pleasant and scenic for a while before getting on the highway. Just coming into the farms is where we saw the eagles so stopped to watch and get the pictures. Traffic was very light on the highway in the morning. First we went to Herbergers to shop for kitchen stuff. They have really remodeled in there since I was in there last, well more than a year ago. Very nice now, with great kitchen and linens departments, and good prices. We reluctantly passed by all the clothes and sales. Did big power shopping here. Then to Penney's where we looked but didn't find anything. Penney's has gone downhill as opposed to Herberger's.

We skipped going back to Home Depot, although could have gotten all kinds of the cleaning stuff there. Time just didn't allow. Then we had lunch at Pizza Hut - by then it was 2:30. There was a big party next to our table for 15 little girls soccer team + some moms and dads. The girls got their trophys and also celebrated birthdays with halloween cakes. We went to Walmart and were in there about 3 hours or so getting everything imaginable. There are still things on the list that we will need as time goes by. Fast food at McDonald's for dinner and home by 8 p.m. All the way to the Muddy Speedway there was oncoming traffic pouring out of Sublette County. They have been working on the Speedway, and what a change from the "old days". It's always been so rough and rutted, terribly muddy when its was wet. They have most of it smooth, wider and graveled. It was such a pleasure to have that improvement.

We didn't unload but just left all the "stuff" the car and parked it in the garage. It would be great if it could stay in the car long enough to go unload it at the new house but Joe or dogs won't fit in the way it is now. VERY FULL!

It's an absolutely gorgeous day. Today Debbie's spent more time on the phone and looks like the money will be here on time. What a struggle that has been. Also talked to our accountant again. And then to our insurance lady who added the new house onto our policy. Those things are taken care of now.

Thought I'd begin to set up the cages to catch the cats. My neighbor 5 miles away on the river says she will take all the cats. I'm so pleased to know that. She even said I could have them back next spring, since I felt so bad about loosing them, but logically I probably shouldn't do that. I just hope the mice don't take the place over again.

We're off to Rock Springs again today to shop at Walmart and whatever else we can find. Not taking Joe, which he's delighted for that! I wonder how many shopping carts we'll fill up?

Gremlins at Work: Yesterday afternoon my printer stopped working and turned itself into a fax - which I can't use with our through the air telephone. It printed one thing, and wouldn't print the next. I have no idea why. In fact there were two fax icons, another kind of fax icon and a remote printer which I don't have either. So I called Cheyenne and he gave me advice on how to reinstall the printer. Well to make a long story short, I stuck the CD in to reinstall, it told me to delete the icons I wanted to keep, and the one that was left turned back into a printer. I don't know why. Anyway tried printing and it works fine again. I didn't get through all this until nearly midnight. Anyway, I had to go through all kinds of cupboards and shelves to find the software and that berated me into getting all the many CDs I have organized and filed into special cases. Not a bad thing.

Today Ken and Nanny are leaving us to live in Wickenburg. They will be back to visit from time to time, but their homestead is for sale and the move is pretty permanent. We will sure miss them being here, but even as we are doing in our lives, they are making a huge life change. Best of luck to you guys and go with happy spirits. I know you will find many fun adventures in your new place. You are leaving a void in our community.

Another Beautiful Day!! Debbie's been back on the phone with the broker to make sure everything is set up for transferring the money. These calls always take so long. Looks like its going along fine and hope it stays that way - and on schedule since time is getting close. Then she went through that account because of some discrepancies and has tracked where the problems are. She has yet more time on the phone to them to correct those.

I could not pay my bills online today like I wanted to because of the change over to Wells Fargo. What an annoyance. It seems you have to start all over with their program and I suppose they lost all my list of payees. I'm not a happy customer. Can't even access anything online without giving my whole social security and I'm not doing that. So another trip into the bank to get that all set up and figured out. GRRRR!!!

Maybe will do more looking around online for bedding, towels, kitchen items and such. We may go to Rock Springs in the morning to shop at Walmart. Betty called yesterday for our weekly visit and enjoyed hearing from her. She's as excited about the new house as we are.

More house pictures

Another day dawning clear and promising. Debbie went to Pinedale to take a deposit in to the bank so that will be in place when we need it. She had her lunch in there and did a little shopping. When she got back we started gathering things together that I know will go to the new house. We got things that are stored in the garage together this afternoon.

The inspection was done today and turned out fine. We still have to follow up on other several things too. I haven't told you that the house has a natural gas fireplace and there's a deck already on the back of the house through the sliding glass doors. This is an area famous for its wonderful views of the mountains, but our house is sitting down in a hole with a hill in front of what should be the view. A little disappointing but can live with that. I just hope this "hole" doesn't fill up with wind blown snow in the winter. We will see. Not sure whether we should take the ATV in and buy a plow to fit it to clear our driveway. We will think about that.

We did some online shopping for bedding and kitchen "stuff". That gets old in a hurry.

In order to move, I’m going to have to catch my cats and find a home for them. Which I’m really sorry about. They are very wild. I do have the live traps which you put can cat food in to lure them in and the door shuts when they get in the trap. Then I'll transfer them to the very large dog kennel cage I have that will hold a litter box and food dishes. I can’t ever pet them, but I love those kittys. Joe said he would come back once a week and feed and water them, however I don't think that's a good idea for him to snowmachine in here alone in the dead of winter to feed cats every week. And it would be cruel to leave them unattended.

It's clouded up and got breezy during the afternoon. But has been a fairly nice day. Guess the wind blew more in Pinedale than here. Debbie said it started up about the time she got to Boulder. Not much else is new.

The Arrowhead House

Yesterday we started off early for a very long day - down the back way to Farson to go to Rock Springs (100 miles each way). We had to go to the Wells Fargo Bank there. The purpose was to get what they call a Medallion Stamp Signature Guarantee on some forms related to getting funds moved from our broker to the bank, similar but more strict than getting signatures notarized...... Because the Pinedale bank hadn't gotten their stamp yet after the change to Wells Fargo. We have been having some surprises and lots of learning experiences with this house buying. We thought the financing would be very easy since we have the money, but getting it to where it can be taken out and used is not easy, and we've had a lot of frustrations with this process.

When we got to the bank we asked for Donna who could do the signature guarantee. Almost right away, after showing her our files, she said this was all over her head and called to ask if Nema could come downstairs and help us. Yes..... Here was a wonderful angel lady who had the knowledge to make the whole thing work for us. We had to get the broker on the phone again, and by speaker phone discovered that the first man who told us last week we could use the trust as collateral for the bank loan was wrong - sending us on a long and winding track.

So Nema went through our accounts and over the speaker phone - one after another with three different brokers - said "won't selling this be possible and make the funds accessible," and can't this be moved over to this account", etc. etc. but far more complicated than this. How fortunate can this have been - that she was there exactly at the time we needed her. We were on the phone nearly an hour and a half. But at the end of that time Nema straightened out and made sense of the complicated finances. I think she was way more aware and knew more than the brokers we were talking to. It ends up that we don't need to take out any loan with the bank. In fact, Nema said that we were better off doing it "this" way than taking the loan, regarding the interest and fees. So we left Donna and Nema with many thanks for their time and efforts on our behalf, and no signature guarantee that we went in for was needed.

We went over to Applebee's for lunch and Debbie had to continue on the phone with the brokers for probably another hour before all the transactions were completed, links changed, and arranging for the money to become available. What an ordeal. Debbie's cell phone battery went low and we moved to the car where we plugged mine in and continued for maybe 30 minutes more. I couldn't believe one man had so much information. Debbie was a wonderful help and got all the notes taken. She said she sure had a lesson. Debbie is helping us a whole lot, I’m glad she’s here. Charm said she is the alpha angel.

Next we went to Home Depot and bought a washer and dryer and a side by side fridge/freezer. We also got a few lamps there. Then across the street to John Paras furniture and bought living room, dining room and some beds. I was really pooping out but knew it was best to keep going while were were there and get it over with. Joe had sat in the car but when we got things chosen he came in and we agreed on which to get. He tried the mattresses and the recliners in the sofa, where he sat until we finished up. By the time we finished there it was 6 p.m. We had wanted to look at the Lazy Boy recliners for Joe at Rushmore but they were closed. We went to the Chinese Buffet (very good) for dinner and then started home in the dark. We didn't get home until 9.

The closing date on the house is the 30th. The furniture will be delivered on the 7th and that is also the day Beverly and Curtis arrive. So now we are beginning to pack a few things into boxes. Not much will go from here. We've left a stack of paintings unpacked that will be hung in the new house.

The phone had been out of order since Sunday and they got it fixed while we were gone to Rock Springs yesterday. Thursday we took it easy. Joe went to town for his haircut and had lunch in there. Debbie called Nema and thanked her for helping us yesterday and asked a few more questions. Tonight she made a nice dinner for us.

The phone is still out of order. They are working on it. The wind has blown the antenna off its direction and they need to brace it. But the wind is blowing too bad for the guy to get up there and fix it. I think they will be back tomorrow. In the meantime we can email.

The wind was cold today. We were gone all day Tuesday to Pinedale. First stopped at the post office and arranged for our mail to be forwarded temporarily to Pinedale. It will be free and our address won't have to be changed.

Then to the bank, finishing up the process for getting the money ready to pay for the house. It’s been a little frustrating. So anyway we have to go to Rock springs Wells Fargo in the morning because Pinedale WF bank doesn’t have the signature stamp we need to use yet, and then it has to be sent overnight to the broker. They then have to send it back etc. Got my protime at the clinic. We drove by some places looking at kinds of fences that will hold the dogs that the home owner's association might approve. Ate lunch at the Bottom's Up Brewery and bought a few groceries. I stopped by Centurytel and began arranging for their bundle to provide phone, internet and Dish TV on one bill. Our Dish account at the ranch can be moved with us to Pinedale, called "on vacation".

After lunch we went over to the nearby video store - just to see if they had a few used videos I could buy, since I've watched all mine several times now. WELL ..... I LOVE A GOOD BARGAIN and never in a thousand years dreamed I would buy over 70 videos today. They had a sale where you could have all the videos a huge bag would hold for $50. We got 70 in the bag so each one was about 70 cents, Debbie figured. I got some great movies too, and oldies but goodies. The good thing is that they all fit in my video tower with room for about 15 or 20 more. I told Debbie that now the video player would break and not be able to buy another one since everything is going to DVD. (First watched Instinct with Anthony Hopkins and Cuba Gooding Jr.)

Walked the dogs on the nature trail. We went to RM Home furniture, but couldn't’t see much and it will take 4-6 weeks for the furniture they order to come. Remember their store burned down last summer and they have very little in stock. We asked them about making pleated shades for the whole house. We’ll look at furniture stores in R.S. tomorrow. Hope if we find something we like they will deliver it. Wish they had something like RC Wiley in SLC. Maybe go to Wal-Mart. Joe has to go to sign the paperwork at the bank and I know he will be impatient to get back home.

Debbie, Joe and I and the dogs will leave as early as possible Wednesday morning for Rock Springs. Hopefully we can go in some furniture stores there although I know Joe will be impatient to go home after the bank business. I’ve been doing more organizing so I will know what I’m doing and have it right at the bank in the morning. Debbie is helping us a whole lot, I’m glad she’s here. We're realizing we'd better start putting stuff in boxes at this point. In a little over a week we should be about ready to move things in.

Thankfully I’m feeling better now than I was after the pump came off.

Wow! Here is a saga from my friend Joan in Sylmar CA. I heard of this fire on the TV, but never dreamed their house could be in danger. I thought I'd just let her tell you in her own words, as she emailed to me. The photo is from an "Installation" they just completed in her back yard - very unique I'd say - named Wheeler. They have maybe 3 places they travel between now, one in Arizona which they enjoy too - so they just came from Arizona to Sylmar to..... THIS!! She says helicopters are still flying around, and the winds are supposed to blow again this weekend.

Today Debbie and I go to town so I'll catch up on that tomorrow.

WELL....I'VE BEEN THROUGH A VARIED SAGA FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. IN AZ. I WOULD GET ONLINE, ONLY TO HEAR "GOODBYE", OR THEN MAYBE I WOULDN'T GET ON LINE. THIS WENT ON UNTIL I WAS TURNING THE AIR BLUE, SO I SAID TO MYSELF.....SELF.....YOU JUST DON'T NEED TO DO THIS TO YOURSELF....SO....STOP THE HELL FOR TRYING. SO I TURNED THE DAMNED THING OFF, PACKED IT AWAY.....STILL SWEARING UNDER MY BREATH EVERYTIME I SAW IT OR LOOKED AT THE WI-FI TOWER 1/2 A BLOCK IN FRONT OF ME.....

WELL....THERE WAS RELATIVE LITTLE NEWS TO WRITE ABOUT. WE PAINTED, WE SHOPPED, WE ATE WHAT WE BOUGHT, WE INSTALLED A DISH SATITALITE (I HAVE SPELLED THIS THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AND SPELL CHECK SEZ IT'S OK....SO MUCH FOR THAT). HAD ELECTRICANS AND AIR CONDITIONING SERVICE MEN OVER TO CHECK EVERYTHING, HAD THE FLOOR PEOPLE OVER, COMPLAINED, THEY ARE INSTALLING A NEW ONE IN DEC., WORKED ON THE YARD, ETC., ETC., NEVER DID GET IN THE POOL....WHICH WE HAD PLANNED TO DO EVERYDAY. JUST EXCITEMENT AT EVERY TURN. WELL....THERE WAS A COYOTE IN THE DOG RUN ONE NIGHT.....

WE RETURNED HOME.....MIKE CALLED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AND TOLD US TO CLEAR OUT THE CLOSET THAT GOES TO THE ATTIC. HE HAD LEFT OVER INSULATION FROM A JOB AND WAS COMING OVER (SUNDAY) AND WE'D FORM A LINE AND HE WOULD FILL THE ATTIC. WE DID....HE DID. GOT THAT CLEANED UP AND PUT STUFF BACK, HAD DINNER AND WATCHED THE NASCAR RACE.

ON MONDAY MORNING WE WERE AWAKENED BY HELICOPTERS FLYING OVER OUR HOUSE AND A PHONE CALL FROM A FRIEND LETTING US KNOW OUR FOOTHILLS WERE ON FIRE. IF WE NEEDED HELP, CALL AND SHE WOULD GET OFF WORK AND COME HELP US. WE WATCHED ON TV RATHER UNCONCERNED OF ANY DANGER, AS WE'VE NEVER BEEN IN DANGER BEFORE. THE WINDS WERE BAD, THEY'VE BEEN BAD BEFORE, HOWEVER, BEFORE TOO LONG, WE HEARD SIRENS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THE FIRE DEPT. HAD SET UP A STAGING AREA A COUPLE OF BLOCKS IN BACK OF US AND THE HELICOPTERS WOULD COME AND LOAD UP WITH WATER AND GO BACK TO THE FIRE...I THOUGHT AT TIMES THEY WERE GOING TO COME IN AND JOIN US. THEN THE BIGGER PLANES PICKED UP WATER FROM THE RESEVOIR AND LAKE NEAR HERE AN THEY WERE FLYING DIRECTLY BACK AND FORTH OVER US. NOT TOO LONG AFTER THAT THE COPS WERE KNOCKING ON THE DOOR TELLING US THAT WE HAD A MANDATORY EVACUATION.

I CALLED MIKE AS HE SAID IF THERE WERE TROUBLE......HE WAS IN BEVERLY HILLS WORKING.....AND SINCE THE FREEWAYS WERE ALSO SHUT DOWN, HE KNEW HOW TO SNEAK IN HERE FROM WHEN THE EARTHQUAKES HAD THEM SHUT DOWN....ONLY THEN THEY WERE DAMAGED AND COLLAPSED.

SO....WE HAD GOTTEN ALL THE KENNELS OUT FOR THE CATS (8), PARROT (1), ALL THE LEASHES, FOOD, WATER, ETC., FOR THE ANIMALS, A CHANGE OF CLOTHES FOR US, ALL THE PAINTINGS, SOME ARE VERY LARGE, PAPERS, FILES, PHOTOS, ETC., ETC. MY COMPUTER, CAUSE WE COULDN'T GET ALL THE STUFF OFF IT.....OH WHAT ONE HAS TO TAKE WHEN IN BUSINESS....................I HAD ALSO CALLED MOTEL 6 NEARBY, FOR 2 ROOMS, ONE FOR OUR FRIENDS AND ONE FOR US.....AS THEY TAKE PETS, AND BETWEEN US WE HAD ONE HELL OF A LOT OF PETS.....THEY HAVE 8 CATS, ALSO.

ONCE WE WERE ALL LOADED WE CONTINUED TO WATCH IT ON TV AND MIKE WOULD GO UP ON THE ROOF OFTEN TO CHECK THE STATUS OF THE FIRE. WE ALL SAT IN THE BACKYARD AND HAD MOJITOS AND CHIPS, THEN CHECK EVERYTHING AGAIN. THIS WENT ON FOR HOURS.

ANOTHER MANDITORY EVACUATION!

WE HAD SOME HOT DOGS, BEANS, AND I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT ELSE, AS BY THAT TIME WE WERE OUT OF MOJITOS AND MARGARITAS.

PLAYED SOME RUMMYKUB. HAD SOME COOKIES.....NOT MANY.....JUST AZ LEFTOVERS.

BY THAT TIME IT WAS AFTER MIDNIGHT. WE MET WITH THE NEIGHBORS....WE LIVE ON A DEAD END STREET.....WE ALL DECIDED THAT IF THE FIRE GOT DOWN TO CERTAIN STREETS, WE'D ALL GET OUT.

COMFORT FOOD WAS TOPS ON OUR LIST....LIKE DOUGHNUTS AND CHOCOLATE. BUT, IF YOU GO OUT, YOU CAN'T GET BACK IN. WELL, PAT COULDN'T STAND IT ANY LONGER.....SHE LEFT AND WENT FOR DOUGHNUTS. THE COPS TOLD HER SHE COULDN'T GET BACK. SHE TOLD THEM HER 84 YR. OLD MOTHER (CRIPPLED), NEEDED THEM DESPERATELY TO CALM HER HYSTERIA AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE. GOD.....THEY TASTED SO GOOD!!

SO....WE KEPT THE ROUTINE UP.....ROOF CHECKING, SNAKING, WATCHING THE TV FOR MORE INFO.....BY THIS TIME, ANOTHER FIRE HAD STARTED UP ACROSS THE FREEWAY IN THE HILLS WEST OF US.....IF THE WINDS KEPT UP, THERE WAS A GOOD CHANCE THAT THE FIRES COULD JOIN AND WIPE OUT THE STATE PARK IN BACK OF US ALONG WITH MORE HOMES.

WELL, THANKS TO THOSE WONDERFUL FIREFIGHTERS AND THE WINDS CHANGING DIRECTION.....THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. THERE WERE I THINK, 40-45 HOMES DESTROYED, PROBABLY DEER, BOBCATS, COYOTES AND PERHAPS EVEN MTN. LIONS CHASED FROM THEIR HOMES AND INJURED, AS THEY ARE AROUND HERE ALSO. I FORGOT.....FOXES.....LIKE THE ONE THAT WAS SITTING IN OUR BIRDBATH A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO.

WELL.....ALL IS NOT UNPACKED....AND ALL OF US ARE STILL WORN OUT.....BUT WE ARE ALL SO THANKFUL TO ALL OF THOSE WHO FOUGHT FOR US FROM THE GREAT SPIRIT IN THE SKY, FIREFIGHTERS, PEOPLE WHO MANNED THE SHELTERS, RESTAURANTS WHO BROUGHT FOOD, RED CROSS, AND SO MANY OTHERS, THAT OUR SMALL PART AND ALMOST 35 HRS. WITHOUT SLEEP SEEMED VERY MINOR COMPARED TO WHAT THEY DID FOR US.

METEORS TONIGHT

I've been watching the moon and planets in the night sky since it was full this month and they have been extra bright and beautiful. Here is a happening tonight. I will try to remember to look during my mid night awake times.

ORIONID METEOR WATCH: If you wake up before sunrise on Tuesday, Oct. 21st, set aside 15 minutes or so to watch the sky around Orion. You might see some meteors. The annual Orionid meteor shower, caused by dusty debris from Halley's Comet, is peaking today and tomorrow. Little was expected of this year's display because a bright Moon is hanging in the pre-dawn sky, causing an interfering glare. Surprisingly, however, sky watchers on Oct. 20th witnessed 15 or more Orionids per hour, many of them brighter than first magnitude stars. Debbie took this picture today because we got such a kick out of the sign that's been placed on the old car. You might have to click to see it. Remember I've shown you pictures of the East Fork River at different stages measured by the bumper or headlights of the car. The other day we drove by and a Jim Roscoe for State Representative sign was on the grill of the car. Totally funny. They are stuck in people's yards all over the country, but this is the first one I've seen like this. We may stop and zoom in on it tomorrow. Whoever put it there would have had quite a hike or horseback ride on the opposite side of the river to get there. Or maybe they swam. Click it.

This is the new front gate Craig made for us. The brand is our cattle brand, the reverse G N . They used it when they ran cattle before Joe's dad sold most of the land off.

It's another nice day. Cloudy overcast but no wind so far. The spiders are really moving into the house. They do that in the fall and are EVERYWHERE. It probably looks like more of them because they just keep crawling around and around - you probably see the same one ten times if you don't get it caught. Nanny sent me some interesting remedies I might try.

This morning we spent an hour or so making sure we are as organized as we should be for finalizing the sale of the house, making sure the loan is all correct, and proceeding with getting utilities, phone TV computer hookups, P.O. Box, and the inspection etc. Need to get the house insured. Since phone is out, emailed both James and the bank with questions. James says we are in good shape with it all at this point, just need to be all set to write the check about the 28th. There's just about a week left now until we finish up with the purchase and can take possession about the 30th.

The phone company guy got here a while ago to fix the phone. Probably talked to Joe who is working down at the front gate, drove in, went in the shop for 10 minutes and drove away. The phone is still the same, so don't know if he needed parts from town or the problem is with their equipment in town or what. Joe may know when he comes back in, I don't.

I'll post a picture of the new gate today, but need to get one taken.

Debbie has gone to town to mail her absentee voting ballot, and have lunch and look around. She is pretty bored with not much interesting to do and little activity. I think she's also a little homesick. While she's in there she's going to check out a place or two for new furnishings or things we may need for the house. She likes to shop, and since all their stuff is in storage she's banned from shopping at home. She can shop for us. Joe has an appointment at the VA on the 3rd and we can get things at WalMart and check out some furniture stores in Rock Springs. Joe won't like that, but it will save another trip down there. Maybe for kitchen things and linens I can shop online.

Got the windows washed inside, using a couple of days to do it. Am doing several loads of laundry again today and changing the sheets.

Sparky has a lump behind his shoulder about the size of a small saucer. I don't know what could have happened to him. It doesn't seem to cause him pain. If it doesn't get better soon he will need to go see Dr. Susie.

Tomorrow will go back to town for the various errands and to the clinic to get my protime test for the coumadin. Need to send some DVDs back to Amazon.com that were supposed to be VHS, so have to check online to see how they want me to do that. I emailed them about the problem but they never answered back.

Wind Rivers, Independent Peak above Big Sandy River

Our phone has gone haywire, it is ringing one or one half rings about every minute. If someone's trying to call I wish they would just quit and report it being out of order. Or if you read this around noon today, will you please report it. We will have to drive somewhere to use a cell phone to call it in. In the meantime I've unplugged both phones in the house and the one in the shop so it won't keep ringing. I'm going to ask Bonnie to report it tonight.

Bonnie and Craig are going to have dinner with us tonight after they bring the gate and get it put up. Joe's been down there this morning I guess demolishing the old gate. He took the chain saw and brought back firewood anyway. We're making spaghetti, garlic toast, fruit plate and phasula, a Greek salad. Was quite perturbed that our last two avocados had bit the dust. So we'll just pretend that they weren't supposed to be in there anyway. The spaghetti sauce is made. Bonnie said she would bring dessert. So now all that's left is to enjoy the evening with nice friends.

I spent a couple of hours this morning sorting out and filing photos. It's been a long time since I did that and have way too many. They need to be backed up onto the external hard drive before we move. I'm not taking my computer tower to town, just the laptop and the external hard drive. And maybe the printer. We're making lists of what is needed.

Yesterday I painted a little, and would like to do some more this afternoon. Feeling better today. Debbie got the art show packed up today. We sorted it out into what will stay here stored away, and what we will take to the new house to hang on the walls. So that is one big job done.

Ruby Mountains

About today's picture - I've had so many similar photos of fall and snow lately that I decided to put one I like from our trip to Northern Nevada last spring that I never used. It is of some fields and cattle on the west slope of the Ruby Mountains. Sure pretty there.

Another really nice day. We haven't had much to do today - or if there is we're not doing it. Debbie did the little bit of ironing there was. Thank you very much for doing that dear Debbie. Joe went out and checked the big front gate, and got yesterday's mail. Bonnie and Craig are coming over tomorrow afternoon to put the second new gate up. I'm anxious to see it.

We have one more real estate paper to scan and send to James with our signature. We tried that yesterday to send the counter offer and the scanner wouldn't quite cooperate - it took a lot of time - then past the deadline it finally decided to go. So hope it's got the kinks out today. We're making lists of what we need to buy, and what will be taken to the new house from here.

Debbie also got the boxes out to the barn so we can begin to pack up the paintings from the Art Show in the Barn display. Some will go to be hung in the new house and also some for the Mixed Media Art Show in November. And I organized some of my painting supplies. Then I painted a little bit today. Some things to do artwork with will go to the new house, but I'll try to keep that to a minimum. There's always the art supply catalogs if I need something. Debbie and I are watching the new "3:10 to Yuma". She's going to make fried chicken for dinner. She made oatmeal cookies yesterday that are really good.

Curtis and Tayler called today from Reno. He had gone up to see her on his motorcycle and they were sitting there somewhere having sushi. She says she's doing good in her classes and having fun with her friends.

This spell after chemo has been pretty miserable. I mostly slept for the last two days, and am finally coming out of it this afternoon. I get to thinking I would like to stop having the chemo. I don't know what that would do. I've mentioned it already, but the pain I get in my neck and shoulder is hardly stopped with the pain pills - they have usually taken care of pain pretty well but not this. I think it will never go away, but then it gradually does. Tomorrow should be better.

Sheral and their family are here at their ranch after a long visit in Texas. They are closing their place up for the winter, and may come over tomorrow before they go home to Layton.

Bad night from shoulder and neck pain, but slept through a lot of it thank goodness. And then after a long hot shower slept more until nearly noon. This is very much like I've had before about the day the pump comes off. I'm wondering if both of us might be having a little side effects from the flu shot too.

We made a counter offer on the Arrowhead Drive house and they have accepted it. We were able, finally after starting over and over, to scan and email our contract so not to have to drive back in to town. Was afraid we would not make the deadline. Seems like things get difficult at the worst times. But thankfully James made everything work. We will be able to take possession of the house about the 30th. So we will start a new and different part of our lives. We will have to get furniture, but will probably just do what is necessary right at first. There will be an inspection to see that everything works right. And one of the first things will be to get the utilities changed into our name. James said he would help with that. I'll write more about the details when I feel better.

It's a pretty day today, almost 60. Debbie is in the kitchen making cookies. Beverly called.

Looks like a moose or?

Well, a mostly cloudy day and looking mighty dark to the west. We go into town again today. Probably we'll eat lunch here and then go to meet James at 1:30 check out the next house, so not to be gone so long again. I also have to go to the clinic and get the port taken off. We'll run into the grocery store for a few things.

Slow morning, still feeling pretty tired. So nothing to write about yet. If anything interesting happens this afternoon I'll be back to report.

Want to say hi to Sally who is having (I think) hip replacement surgery. You get well soon Sally, and I sure hope this fixes everything up so you are out of pain.

Antelope at Sunset - Need to click this one.

I didn't sleep last night until about 5 a.m. and slept then until about 8:30. Not feeling bad just awake and unsleepy. The chemo does that for some reason. Betty had called this morning telling how Obama is going to be changing tax laws - if he gets elected.. So we added this to our list of questions. We put a pork loin into the crock pot so there would be something for dinner when we got home. Back to town again today, left about 10:15 and first went up to the Arrowhead Rd. house to show it to Debbie and go through again, making any notes about things that need fixed or questions we wanted answered. Boy after the 8" snow the yard is VERY muddy, an icky sticky clay. Debbie said she liked this house as well as the other one. We all like it very much and always have. It is just totally different from the 2 bedroom log one - kind of sterile at this point. The woman finally did make a counter offer this morning -. $2000 off her asking price and no furniture. So we felt she didn't want to sell it very bad. She said she would just keep renting it.

We went back to Jame's office and got the paperwork started over for the Arrowhead house. Then dropped the dogs off for their baths. They had to go into a kennel pen together and didn't want to stay there much. Especially Sparky was pretty vocal about it and begged me not to go out the door and leave them there. The groomer said they would be finished about 3 or 3:30.

We went to the Patio for lunch, then to Rendezvous Pointe to get our flu shots. That only took just a minute. They had the times wrong in the paper (which said 9-12 and 1-3 actually should have been 9-1 and 2-5..... or something). So we were there at 1 and they were just going to quit, but took us in right away.

Then over to the accountant's office. He said the decisions we were making are good, and shouldn't incur any penalties, fees or taxes. Through the coming years the gains on property that you sell are being taxed differently, and some things are changing with the inheritance taxes, but not much will be different until 2012. So all seems well in that department. with our estate planning and the trust.

Next to the bank again and everything with switching money over to be accessible is o.k. there too. While I was getting our safety deposit box, Bill told Joe and Debbie about another house that was being foreclosed on, in a very nice newer development on the edge of town. It would likely be almost $100,000 less than the Arrowhead house. It's about 10 years old. I know I was very tired being the day after chemo, etc. but it was almost too much to think about changing and starting over again , even with such a huge savings. I'm sure I'll feel it would be smart to think about this new opportunity. James is being very patient to see that we get the best place for us.

After we picked up the dogs from their bath, we drove by this house. And we could have looked at this house and some others in this area very early on, but Joe has always said that he didn't want to live on the highway i.e. every time we drove by there he would say"Why are these people putting their houses right on the highway" - and 191 is right in back of the house. Now he's saying for $100,000 he could live on the highway. The house is on over two acres and the yard is landscaped - even a waterfall and pond, hot tub with a nice porch. Fences can only be pole and rail, no wire (so as to let the wildlife through), so I'm not sure how they would let us fence in the dogs. They would have to have a sturdy pen, being so close to the road. Also all the roads are flat - no hills to worry about in winter.

I forgot to take any pictures of either house again today. Will try to do that. So we still have things to think about. We will see inside the new house in the morning. I'm supposed to go back in to get the port off.

This afternoon when we got back home I looked at email and too a nap until 9 p.m. so Joe and Debbie had the dinner without me. I made a roast pork sandwich with applesauce and salad a while ago. The dogs are pooped from their trips to town, and the bath. So they have been sleeping. I'm sure I will also sleep better tonight. The movie for tonight is About Schmidt with Jack Nicholson. He's almost always very good. I watched it a long time ago, and so it was almost like I'd never seen it - poor memory, and I liked it a lot.

Another early day, left the house by 7:30. It was cold and clear here - about 15 when we left. Got up over 50 by afternoon in Jackson. We were able to go to the accountant to request an appointment tomorrow, in to the bank to see the prez again and take in some of the financial forms. They are going to take care of the rest of that.

Then on to Jackson. Debbie drove me in her car today. The trips up and back were beautiful with the new snow. It hardly seems like any time since I last was posting snow pictures. Coming to the rim there began to be fog which made for yet another type of beautiful scenery.

Hate to keep writing same same so won't go into a bunch of other details. We made it up there on time, and got right in the chair. The port behaved a little better today and let Lisa draw blood from the port, but they still had to use the clot buster. She also had to stick me in the hand for some of the blood. My blood tests were better. Also the protime test showed that now my blood is too thick so the dose of coumadin and was adjusted accordingly.

Debbie went off shopping and sightseeing. She got a new DVD player because her old one went kaput. She got my prescription and did the grocery shopping while I was in the hospital, so we didn't have to stop after for that. A quilt guild from Salt Lake had sent 100 lap quilts or baby quilts to distribute to the cancer patients. So I was given a beautiful quilt and some bulbs for the garden - I chose tulips and daffodils. I envisioned going to plant them in the flower beds of the new house.

I was finished by 2:30 today, one of the shortest ever times. There were only two of us patients there so we had the nurses all to ourselves. Michael from Big Piney was there. I've seen her quite a few times along with her son and husband. I was pretty devastated as was she to learn that her treatments weren't working, but they were starting her on a new kind of chemo. She will be in my thoughts and hope that her new treatment will work better.

Debbie wasn't back by the time I got the pump on, so I went out and checked email on the computer in the waiting room. She soon came and we started on home. James called us about as we got to Cora and asked us to stop by the office. I was all exited that the buyer had accepted the offer on the house. But soon to find out that they had not, and would not ever give a counter offer. All the Realtors had agreed that we were very close to what the appraised value would be, but she had paid quite a bit more for it when she bought it and said that the furniture cost $20,000. Well, we all know what happens to the price of furniture once you take it home.

We would still certainly be interested in the South Fork house if her realtor could convince her that we should not be required to pay her bills. I do love the house. So we decided to go to our second favorite home on Arrowhead - brand new up toward Fremont Lake. We will have to furnish it, and have it fenced right away.

Tomorrow we have appointments with our accountant, the bank and with James to go and show Debbie the Arrowhead house and get on with the job of finding a place to buy.
